REMEMBER – Exciting News from the Screenplay

We’re still months away from filming, but our movie is already racking up some awards recognition. So far, we’ve been recognized as an official selection in eight different film festivals.

Check out our snazzy laurels:

And this month, we’re adding a ninth festival to the list! REMEMBER is now a quarterfinalist in the Page Turner Screenplay Award.

This contest focused on the first 15 pages. It’s good to know we hooked ‘em right away.

It’s extremely validating to see our story recognized by so many people, but what do film festivals actually mean? Well, if you’re lucky, you’ll score some cash prizes. More importantly, though, you’ll make connections with other industry professionals and get some valuable feedback.

REMEMBER is a pretty intense psychological horror film about trauma and memories, but it started its life as a very different story. The earliest version was a horror-comedy called REMEMBER THE VICTIMS. This version became a finalist for the Pitch Now Screenplay Contest. Thanks to this early success, the script was reworked and eventually sold to its future director. Without Pitch Now, that never would’ve happened.

After even more rewrites, the screenplay (now just called REMEMBER) became a top-five finalist in the Amsterdam Lift-Off Festival. Our project was now part of the Lift-Off network, which connects writers and filmmakers from around the world. If you’re a Lift-Off member, you can check out our promotional video for the film.

After that, we started getting more international recognition, joining festivals in Australia, Mexico, Switzerland, and Brazil. People in every country love to be scared, apparently.

Each step of the way, we’ve gotten helpful feedback from judges, which has led to some important changes in the story. Submitting to festivals is a slow process, often waiting months for the results to come in, but it’s an important part of the filmmaking journey. Our screenplay would probably be very different without it.
