REMEMBER – Ronnie Z. Nielsen Cast as Jade

From Shakespeare to horror

Ten friends in an isolated cabin are terrorized by a malevolent force that picks them off one-by-one. As each character is taken, the survivors forget that their friend ever existed, causing ripple effects that affect their personalities, relationships, and ability to survive the night.

We’re thrilled to announce that Asheville-based actor, musician, and illustrator Ronnie Z. Nielsen has joined the cast of REMEMBER as Jade. This marks Ronnie’s feature film debut, and their passion for storytelling makes them a perfect fit for our ensemble.

“As someone who doesn’t usually gravitate towards horror movies, I’m super excited to get to see a film of this genre from a behind-the-scenes perspective. I can’t wait to learn more about how all the SFX are created and utilized!”

Ronnie first heard about auditions through a fellow castmate while performing in Twelfth Night with NC Stage Community Tours. They jumped at the chance to try something new—and landed the role.

Though this is their first feature, Ronnie has been honing their craft onstage since 2020, when they joined Montford Moppets, a theater troupe dedicated to Shakespeare. Since then, they’ve performed Twelfth Night across Western North Carolina and discovered a love for “all the hidden comedy in Shakespeare.” Their role in Julius Caesar was especially formative, igniting the spark that set them on a path toward acting. Other credits include Wendy & Peter (Wendy) with the Montford Park Players and Romeo and Juliet (Ensemble/Balthasar) with Nemesis Theater Company.

Ronnie is also a creator beyond the stage. They’re currently co-developing their first graphic novel with REMEMBER costar Elias Hamilton, and they write and perform music under the stage name Angeloclast.

Although horror isn’t usually their go-to genre, Ronnie does have experience on the darker side of storytelling: they portrayed infamous figure Elizabeth Bathory in a short film. “This isn’t the type of movie I tend to watch, which makes things even more exciting. This is all totally new for me.”

Ronnie is especially delighted to play a queer character in REMEMBER. “As a queer actor, I’m really delighted to be playing a queer character. It’s great to see films of all sorts of genres embrace more diverse casting. Queer people exist, period—and that should be reflected in our media. We’re not an exception. We should be seen in all genres, not just films that are about queerness.”

Born in Oregon and raised in Asheville since the age of two, Ronnie is deeply connected to the local community. They’ve watched the region recover from the devastation of last year’s Hurricane Helene and see REMEMBER as part of that healing. “Especially after such a collective trauma, it’s important to lean on local community and encourage people to create things they’re passionate about. I’m really glad to see a film that is such a passion project with a local team.”

Welcome to the REMEMBER family, Ronnie!
